Counselling can be for grief, loneliness, anxiety, depression, anxiety and traumatic experiences. If you want to share how you’re feeling, and change something about it, then psychotherapy can be a way to learn how to shift what’s causing you distress and live without restrictions.
Often, we’re not sure what exactly we’re looking for but if you’ve found your way here t contact Meriel for a free consultation call.
Counselling 1:1 Adults In-person in Cardigan town centre or online.
At it’s core, counselling is the experience of confidential professional listening by a trained compassionate counsellor. Sometimes, somply being heard enables us to find the clarity we need to move forward in our lives. Counselling can also be a place to get something off your chest safely like anger, shame, guilt or sadness, it can be a way to untangle something you’re confused about at work or in your family, and gain insight into your patterns of behavior and thinking and change them.
Counselling is useful for relationship problems, work conflicts, social tension, bereavement, anxiety and depression
Psychotherapy 1:1 Adults In-person in Cardigan town centre or online.
Psychotherapy is similar to counselling and reflects deeply on your infancy, family experiences, relationships and life choices. The Adlerian approach is interested in all parts of you - your body, social world, thoughts, emotions and soul. Recognising your patterns without shame, is a way to move the distress or blockages that are getting in your way. It takes courage to change what hurts but you are capable of addressing what causes pain and finding different ways to be.
Meriel intergrates her background in counselling and trauma therapy with the Adlerian psychotherapuetic approach. She has worked for over 5 years supporting people who’ve experienced sexual violence and domestic abuse for New Pathways, Traumaform and the DPJ. She is a Mental Health Counsellor and member of the steering team at Pathway Counselling.
Somatic therapy 1:1 Adults In-person in Cardigan town centre.
Somatic mean body-focused so we start with physical feelings and choices not words and concepts. First, we stablish physical safety which will involve recognition of what’s happened to you and ensuring you are safe right now. Then we might work with simple movements and choice-making. Meriel encourages you to listen to your interoceptions (feelings your body uses to tell you how and where you are like hunger, temperature, sensation etc) and rebuild a relationship with your body.
Meriel’s is a no-touch approach. Instead, she creates a space for you to be in-charge of any sensations and movements you may, or may not, choose.
Somatic therapy is particularly useful for those who’ve experienced trauma eg. conflict, war, bullying, rape or sexual abuse, domestic violence or abuse, neglect, isolation or displacement and for people who’ve grown up with parents with addictions or live with addication themselves.
Body-based therapy may also resource those experiencing loss and grief, complex grief or anticipatory grief.

About Meriel
Hello, I’m Meriel and I intergrates counselling, psychotherapy and somatic approaches to therapy and this will depend on your individual needs. I see therapy as a collaboratove process and will encourage you to think anew about what you feel is wrong. I’ll be with you all the way but I will be inviting you to take control of what’s happening, to some degree.
If you’ve found me in order to address the impact of trauma in your life I understands these struggles both professionally and personally.
Healing childhood or adult relationship trauma takes time and a genuinely trauma-informed approach. Many of us carry invisible wounds from childhood: the hypervigilance from growing up walking on eggshells, the self-criticism derived from caregivers who couldn't regulate their own emotions, or the deep sense of not being enough despite our achievements.
Please know that there is hope - healing, while not always linear, is absolutely possible.
Iwork specifically with adults healing from childhood trauma, relational neglect or abuse, and the lasting effects of growing up in an environment where safety - physical or emotional - wasn't guaranteed. In a trauma context I follow the evidence-based 3-phase model to trauma recovery:
- Phase 1: Emotional Safety and Symptom Stabilisation (I have enough safety and stability in my life to address my trauma)
- Phase 2: Processing Traumatic Memories (with support, I can feel my emotions and grieve)
- Phase 3: Integration and Reconnection (I am more than my trauma)
I am an experienced professional with over 10 years practice with a Diploma in Counselling and Adlerian psychotherapy (BACP certified). My curiosity in how we understand ourselves through our bodies also led me to further train in somatic approaches to healing (CTFE certified - Center for Trauma and Embodiment, US.). This is sometimes useful in trauma-informed therapy.
I began training as a person-centred counsellor with New Pathways, a rape and sexual violence charity, but I sought something deeper and now integrate supporting people impacted by truama with the psycho-therapuetic Adlerian approach.
Coming from a Welsh-Nigerian household, I bring a nuanced understanding of cultural and religious issues, including identity struggles and family expectations. I support clients whose cultural, neuro-divergent and gender identities intersect with trauma. Whatever your background, you'll find a non-judgmental, supportive space where you can bring your whole self - your fears, hopes, and everything in between. Working with me means having someone walk alongside you - not leading, not following, but journeying with you. I aim to create a space where you feel safe, heard and able to heal. Where would you like to start?
Get in contact to arrange an initial phone call. From there we can schedule an assessment. We’ll work together to establish how you are and what would be the most useful for you now.

To work with trauma we find ways to establish safety within ourselves and also in the spaces where we live, work and play. Trauma involves people and how they relate between themselves. Meriel’s approach is not only for 1:1 client work but in working with organisations within our community to find ways to make our living environment safe for all. This is why Meriel works in groups too.
Take time to find out what’s right for you and get in contact to discuss.
